Sheridan’s men aim to avoid unwanted record
Chesterfield: Spireites news, reports and more.
Spireites make a trip into the unknown tomorrow.
Buoyed by Wednesday’s JPT win over Oldham, John Sheridan’s side travels to Colchester United’s stadium for the first time.
John Ward’s U’s, who won 1-0 at the B2net earlier in the season, have added Watford striker Gavin Massey to their squad this week for a three month spell. He scored the winner for Yeovil against Chesterfield in an earlier loan spell.
Chesterfield have failed to win in 17 league games. One more will equal the all-time run of 18 League games set in 1960-61 and equalled in 1999-2000, both relegation seasons.
Sheridan has no fresh injury worries from the Oldham game.
Cup-tied Neal Trotman and Liam Ridehalgh are both expected to return to the back-four with Simon Ford and Gregor Robertson possibly the ones to be left out.
Craig Westcarr (ankle) and Dean Morgan (hamstring) may be fit enough to intensify the attacking options, though they’ll only be used if 100% ready.
Jack Lester, last season used sparingly in away games, is expected to continue to lead the line and Scott Boden, a midweek scorer, should get the nod to retain the partnership though there’s still hope that a new striker may arrive by kick-off time.
Blackburn’s Nick Blackman, 6’2”, is the name being touted most frequently. He spent last season on loan in the SPL with Motherwell and then Aberdeen.
Former Millers frontman Ian Henderson is United’ top scorer with just 7 goals this season for a team that’s struggled to find consistency. They have conceded five and six in games at home and they’ve notched up four on their travels a couple of times.

Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:32 PMThe great escape has started but can I ask why we couldnt have signed Deane Smalley back on loan from Oxford. Surely we pay better wages than Bradford. 2-1 win again please at Colchester. The blonde one.
