Ridehalgh joins Spireites with more to come

Chesterfield: Spireites news, reports and more.

Spireites made just one signing yesterday though at least one more is expected today.

Twenty-year-old defender Liam Ridehalgh joined on loan to the end of the season from Huddersfield Town.

The left footed but versatile defender played in around half of the Terriers’ games last season.

This term he has spent three months on loan at League Two promotion chasers Swindon Town.

His recruitment comes after left back Scott Griffiths was recalled by Peterborough United.

Centre half Aaron Downes was also sent on a month’s loan to Bristol Rovers.

Ridehalgh goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s home game with Exeter City.

The squad is also expanded with the availability of striker Jack Lester after his three match ban.

Frenchman Jimmy Juan is expected to play some part in the game after being a non-playing sub in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic.

Dean Morgan’s hamstring is still being treated so he remains a doubt.

But Neal Trotman, who picked up a facial injury against the Latics, will be fit to play.

Mark Randall (hand) is still on the sidelines.

Jordan Bowery will link up with Lester up front with Craig Westcarr most likely to switch to the wing at the expense of Nathan Smith.

John Sheridan’s men haven’t won in 15 matches in League One and City have won just once in their last 11 games in all competitions.

So, like last Saturday at Scunthorpe, it’s two teams desperate for a win coming together.

This time however, a draw will not be sufficient to satisfy the frustrations of the home supporters.

Defender Danny Coles returns for City after suspension and striker Jake Taylor is available after extending his loan from Reading.

On Monday the Grecians drew 1-1 with West Country rivals Yeovil Town at St James Park.
