CHESTERFIELD had to work hard but beat local rivals Belper Town 4-2 in the Derbyshire Senior Cup tie at the Proact Stadium.
After conceding the opening goal to their visitors through Shaun Tuton the Spireites levelled through Mark Randall from the penalty spot after a handball.
And new signing Armand Gnanduillet put Chesterfield in front with a good finish after a strong run through the centre of the Belper defence.
Jacob Hazel made it three on 48 minutes as he headed home a Randall cross.
However the non-league side continued to battle and made it 3-2 with a Stephen Warne strike.
Belper had a chance to make it 3-3 but a good save from Josh Barrington kept out Harrison’s penalty.
Gnanduillet forced a fine tip-over save after Jack Lester’s inch perfect pass and from Townsend’s corner Jonathan Wafula headed in to make it 4-2 five minutes from time.
