Chesterfield: Spireites news, reports and more.

ROCK-bottom Chesterfield have today signed West Bromwich Albion defender James Hurst on loan until the end of the season.

The highly regarded right full-back penned a long-term contract with the Baggies last season, and has had loan spells at Blackpool and Shrewsbury Town this term.

After progressing through West Brom’s academy, he joined Portsmouth, who beat off competition from Arsenal, Manchester United and Aston Villa for his signature. After a loan spell with Icelandic side IBV, hurst returned to The Hawthorns in the summer of 2010 and made his first team debut last season.

He is an England youth international and has already played at the B2net Stadium in the U19 international between England and Germany in February 2011.

As the deal is classed at a youth loan, Hurst can be recalled by Albion after 28 days with the Spireites, who are seven points adrift of safety in League One.

He is expected to go straight into the squad for the club’s clash at Leyton Orient this weekend.
