Chesterfield: Spireites news, reports and more.

THE CASH tills are ringing at the B2net Stadium.

Wembley tickets go on sale from next Tuesday for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final against Swindon Town.

Add to that consecutive Saturday home games against the top two in League One, Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday, and it means that rarely, if ever, will revenue have been higher in little over a week.

Whilst the trip to London will dominate a lot of the headlines, most supporters would trade a loss against Paolo Di Canio’s side to guarantee League One safety. And the next three games will go a long way to determining Spireites’ capabilities to manage that.

Sandwiched between the stiff tests against the two leading lights, John Sheridan’s men have a tricky trip to Bury, who have taken to League One better than Spireites with whom they made the step up last summer.

Charlton, who have won 11 of 15 away games, present Chesterfield’s toughest test to date. With an embarrassment of striking riches, Chris Powell’s side have also shown their resilience with two single goal wins against both Sheffield sides last month.

Johnnie Jackson’s free-kick winners in those two games also show they can conjure up goals from any situation.

Their two road defeats this term came at Stevenage and Leyton Orient indicating that they are vulnerable occasionally, but Spireites will have to step up from their performance at Carlisle last weekend.

Nicky Ajose looks certain to start up front alongside veteran striker Jack Lester with Scott Boden missing out.
