Spireites’ winger Dean Morgan has given his manager some food for thought.
The skilful raider has been out of favour lately yet scored two more goals in a reserves game this week.
He scored a brace in the first half in a 3-2 win at York to add to the two he scored in a practice match against Doncaster a week earlier. Morgan, 28, is undoubtedly a gifted player but this season, he’s not shown too much in his seven starts to date this term.
No one doubts his ability, but his attitude has recently been questioned and a big game against Sheffield United could just be the right stage to reintroduce his mercurial talents.
Left midfield has been a problem position this season, the last five games have featured four different starters in that position, so Morgan’s reminder could well be just what manager John Sheridan wants. Frenchman Alex Mendy’s place could be under threat after a few quiet games of late with Morgan favourite to pinch any vacancy.
Another boost was the return to reserves action of Jack Lester. The 36-year-old striker has been out for 12 weeks.
