Danny Wilson has a message for his players and one for the supporters, ahead of tonight’s crucial derby against Doncaster Rovers.

The Spireites’ boss admits this is a massive game that could push his side into a ‘safer’ – although not yet mathematically safe – position.

Equally, it could be part of a miraculous Rovers escape bid.

Chesterfield might start the game favourites, given Doncaster’s record of one win in 18 outings.

But that victory came in their last outing, against league leaders Wigan Athletic.

And home form has been a much publicised problem for the Spireites – a problem to which nerves have contributed, says Wilson.

“There’s a been a little bit of nervousness around the stadium when we’ve played at home, I’ve noticed it myself,” he said.

“We need to throw those shackles off, those nervous pangs and go and enjoy ourselves, the game is there for us to go and perform.”

Wilson’s plea to those in the stands is to back those on the pitch, even when things aren’t going exactly to plan.

But he admits the team also have a part to play in generating a positive atmosphere in the Proact.

“On Saturday we didn’t give the fans anything to shout about, the game was dead and buried after the secong goal,” he said.

“Even when things aren’t going in your favour, that’s when we really need them.

“We need the vocal support we know we can get from them.

“It’s up to us to provide something for them to shout about, but there are certain times in games when we need a bit of a lift and hopefully they can do that for us.”
