Two defeats on the spin has all but put paid to any chance Sheffield Wednesday had of promotion.

The drubbing at home to the Posh was difficult to stomach for Owls fans; if they are not careful they could get sucked into a relegation battle.

We are 33/1 that they go down. On Saturday night they travel to Southampton, and to some this might seem like lambs to the slaughter territory. I’m not so sure. At 6/1 Wednesday are a big price and it might be worth a few bob on that. Megson will tell them in no uncertain terms how poor they were on Tuesday and he’ll expect radical improvement. The draw also looks tempting at 16/5.

The Blades have a real struggle to remain in the Championship. They are as short as 1/6 to go down and 7/2 to stay up. They host Leeds and I like the price of Sheffield United at 12/5. I have my doubts about Leeds and am not convinced they’ll finish in the top 6. The atmosphere will be feisty and that should help the Blades. They travel to Loftus Road next so getting something here is a must.

There is also a tasty Chesterfield v Rotherham derby tomorrow. Rotherham won the first first encounter, so the Spireites are up for revenge, and the evens about them doing so looks tempting. Rotherham are 13/5 but their form of late has been a worry. It is now 2/9 that Chesterfield win the title, and this should be shorter after Friday.
