The last time Chesterfield met Port Vale, the game provided much more in the way of entertainment than the Spireites’ recent outings.

Saturday’s visitors won 3-2 on a snow covered pitch in November, ending a run of four away victories on the trot for Dean Saunders’ Chesterfield.

Last season Chesterfield did well against Port Vale, beating them in both League One meetings.

In the first clash, at Vale Park, Chesterfield won 2-1 despite the late sending off of Ian Evatt.

The game concluded in unsavoury scenes after Chesterfield’s Armand Gnanduillet said he was racially abused by a supporter in the Lorne Street stand as the teams left the pitch.

And then at the Proact in January 2015, the Spireites were 3-0 victors.

Gnanduillet opened the scoring with a powerful header before Eoin Doyle made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

And Charlie Raglan headed home in the 70th minute to complete the win.
