STRIKER Jack Lester returned to the score-sheet in Spireites’ 3-1 reserves win at Port Vale.

The 36-year-old played an hour in the Central League Cup match and, along with Danny Whitaker and Dean Morgan, scored the goals that gave the second string their first win in the competition. A defeat against Derby was followed by a draw at Stoke City meaning that a win in the final group game against Rotherham United (December 19) could mean progress is made.

Chesterfield’s side featured French triallist Jimmy Juan, a former Monaco player who had a loan spell at Ipswich in 2005-06, during which time he hammered in a 25 yard free kick against Sheffield United in a 1-1 draw at Portman Road. Another midfielder is back at the B2net, Derek Niven’s loan spell at Northampton has ended and could feature in the Spireites’ Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash at Preston next Tuesday.
