BOTTOM club Chesterfield had another relegation nail knocked in their coffin tonight.
Promotion-chasing Huddersfield grabbed an early advantage and never looked like losing their grip of the three points.
Drew Talbot had been a threat to the Terriers early on but gradually Huddersfield began to exert control.
On 22 minutes, Geordie striker Lee Novak fired from just inside the area to the top left corner.
Home goalie Tommy Lee had to face more shots from Novak and Antony Kay in a torrid four minutes before Jordan Rhodes added another to his collection.
Huddersfield had gone one better than the 1-0 win they inflicted on Chesterfield in West Yorkshire in December,
Home fans almost had something to cheer about in the second half when Nathan Smith crossed for Talbot headed wide of the target.
But Novak, Gary Roberts and Joey Gudjonsson continued to pose a threat at the other end. Fortunately Novak was to be replaced by substitute Alan Lee.
A Craig Westcarr free kick set up Neal Trotman at the back post but sadly he couldn’t get it on target.
The Spireites also made a change, Nick Ajose coming on for Mark Allott.
But Simon Grayson’s men almost added another when Roberts’ cross found Rhodes.
With seven minutes on the clock, all chances of clawing back were lost when Talbot’s header cleared the crossbar.
