When Kristian Dennis settled down to watch Monday night’s FA Cup draw he was hoping to see Chesterfield paired with one of his old non-league sparring partners.

The striker has spent the majority of his career scoring goal after goal against a multitude of part-time outfits, before entering full-time professional football last season with Town.

In life, however, you don’t always get what you want.

Former Chesterfield boss Dean Saunders was responsible for the draw and handed the Spireites a tough trip to high flying League One outfit Bradford City.

Dennis, who scored in Town’s 4-2 Checkatrade Trophy defeat by the Bantams earlier this season, was honest in his reaction to the draw.

“Could have been easier, couldn’t it?” he said with a wry laugh.

“I thought when it came out, it’d be a lower league side, everyone wants a lower league side.

“But it couldn’t have been any worse, could it?

“Bradford away, we’ve not got a good record against them last season and this season in the Checkatrade.

“But we’ll go there, it’s the FA Cup, anything can happen.”
