LEAGUE Two leaders Chesterfield retain their 11-point advantage at the top after battling to a well deserved 2-0 home win over promotion rivals Port Vale, writes Digital Editor Graham Walker.

The Spireites began the game well with Craig Davies’s close-range header from Mark Allott’s cross hitting the post.

Chances in the rest of the half wre few and far between but the hosts took the lead soon after the interval, with Jack Lester converting Dean Morgan’s cross.

Deane Smalley sidestepped Stuart Tomlinson to plance home their second and secure all three points.
