Chesterfield have to put past inconsistency behind them and take confidence from Saturday’s win into tonight’s vital clash at Walsall.

The Spireites were 1-0 winners at Swindon on Saturday, ending a seven-game winless streak.

But Town are yet to put together a run of more than two wins on the trot this season.

Caldwell craves consistency and hopes the weekend’s victory is the platform they need.

“We’ve had a few draws that were big performances and we felt it was a step forward and we could build on it,” he said.

“But to win Saturday I can see everyone, the confidence in their faces, the team spirit in the changing room and we have to use that and build on it.

“Tuesday night is a huge game.

“We don’t put all the good work on Saturday to waste.”

Caldwell was able to welcome Dion Donohue back to the starting XI on Saturday after almost a month out injured.

But it sounds unlikely that he’ll get Jon Nolan or Paul McGinn back for tonight’s clash with the Saddlers.

“Nolan is working nearly top end with the physio so he should be back at some point this week,” said the Town boss.

“McGinn will hopefully play some part in the game for the reserves.”

That reserve game, at the Proact today against Grimsby Town, would be McGinn’s first taste of action since 18th October when he re-injured his hamstring.

The injury first happened on 24th September and it is thought the right-back attempted to return too quickly.

McGinn, a summer signing who moved to League One after eight seasons north of the border, has played just 11 times during this campaign.
