Spireites must crack the Cody

Spireites have a tough task at Gillingham tonight. The Kent side have lost just once in nine, seven of those games won; sub Luke Rooney earned a point with a late leveller at Torquay United on Saturday.

However Cody McDonald, borrowed from Norwich City, is Andy Hessenthaler's main threat. The 24 year old has 12 goals this season, eight of them in his last nine games.

League leaders Chesterfield are also in decent shape. Their 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury Town gave them back to back clean sheets for the first time this season and made it six without loss.

Defender Simon Ford picked up a facial cut at the Greenhous Meadow but is expected to be available, though with games coming thick and fast over the next few weeks, he could be one of the men rested from this fixture. Dwayne Mattis would switch from midfield to defence if he, or indeed 35 year old Ian Breckin, is given the day off.

Chesterfield, seeking their 50th point and 50th goal in their 25th game, have Derek Niven, Scott Griffiths and Ian Morris all pushing for starts and at least one of them is expected to come in to preserve the freshness of the squad.

New loan man Javan Vidal will be disappointed to sit out this game after a decent debut at the weekend.
