LEAGUE Two leaders Chesterfield continued to march towards automatic promotion with a 2-1 home win over Northampton Town, writes Digital Editor Graham Walker.

Gary Johnson was denied his first points as Northampton manager by a commanding Chesterfield performance.

Craig Davies should have found the net in the first few minutes, but he smashed the ball over from from just yards out.

Davies eventually made amends, firing in after Jack Lester’s shot was palmed away, before Lester slotted home Scott Griffiths’ cutback from the left wing.

Cobblers defender John Johnson set up a tense finish, heading in Michael Jacobs’ corner.
