John Sheridan’s attempts to boost his squad on deadline day look to have been in vain.
Southampton’s Jonathan Forte was believed to be top of his shopping list but the former Blades raider, who scored in midweek for Saints in the Carling Cup, looks set to stay put at St Mary’s. Chesterfield’s manager looked to have failed in his bids to add to his front line. Having lost Craig Davies and Deane Smalley in the summer, a goal scoring striker has been a priority ever since.
Despite signing Notts County man Craig Westcarr last week, Sheridan remains desperate to add to that section of his team, though it now looks like the loan market will be his only short term option.
However Spireites’ boss was buoyed by the conclusion of international clearance for French winger Alex Mendy, who’s set to play in the vital home game with Leyton Orient at the weekend.
Mendy, along with Westcarr and two loan signings from last week, Lee Johnson and Jonathan Grounds, all look likely to start in the match against League One’s only side yet to win a point.
Orient though have beaten Southend and beat Bristol Rovers in the Carling Cup
