Spireites have the luxury of a full week’s training as they build up for the weekend trip to Millwall.

Manager Dean Saunders will be hoping that he can use the time to assimilate recent signings Angel and Lee Novak more closely into the club’s playing style.

He’ll also be hoping to add another new face this week and hope to fend off any late transfer interest in skipper Sam Morsy.

The blank midweek also gives Drew Talbot another vital week in his attempt to regain match fitness which has clearly been short in the games to date.

Novak plus Dan Jones and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake all picked up knocks in the goalless draw with Rochdale but all three are expected to have fully recovered for the trip to South London.

Jones, who made his 200th career league appearance against Dale, wants more action as he looks forward to the trip.

The left back said: “I’d like a few more appearances; I’ve had a few injuries in my career but hopefully they’re all behind me now.”

Having kept a clean sheet he added: “We’re looking solid at the back and Tommy Lee’s in fine form, he made some outstanding saves against Rochdale whilst Ian Evatt, Sam Hird and Drew Talbot are all playing out of their skins.”

Jones, signed last year after being let go by Port Vale, is delighted with the new manager’s new fitness regime.

He said: “My athleticism is a big part of my game and I’d like to get forward more and get assists, I need to get more assists and affect more games; I seem to put a lot of balls into the box and everyone goes ‘great cross’ but I’d be happy to put a rubbish ball in that someone scores from!

“It’s a big part of my game and I’m really enjoying it. The speed and athleticism elements the Gaffer has introduced suits me and plenty of others.”

Never afraid to get into a bit of banter with the opposition’s fans, he’s expecting some come Saturday, saying: “I’ll probably get them calling me pretty boy and things like that but I really enjoy it, but I’ll be trying to avoid making mistakes because then I can’t give anything back.”
