Chesterfield’s new first team coach Chris Morgan says the confidence has returned to the Spireites, after a crushing victory over Shrewsbury Town.

It was a magnificent seven for Chesterfield that brought an end to a winless run stretching back two months and now Morgan believes the victory can act as a catalyst for the second half of the season.

But he warned the Spireites squad not to get carried away with the margin of victory, with games against Rochdale, Wigan and Millwall coming up - starting at Spotland on Saturday against Keith Hill’s Dale.

Ex-Blade Morgan, who last week joined Chesterfield’s backroom staff under new boss Danny Wilson, said on last weekend’s 7-1 taming of the Shrews: “It’s a result you can’t get carried away with.

“You have got to enjoy it because it was a good performance but we have to be realistic. We have got some hard tasks in front of us. The confidence they can take from that is huge and we want them to take that in to every day’s training and every game.”

And added: “Rochdale are doing well. They’re just on the outskirts of the play-offs and are there on merit. They have a good manager there in Keith Hill and some good players too.

“I’ve watched them this season and they work hard. They are on the back of a good result like ourselves and I’m sure it’ll be a tough test for us.”
