CHESTEREFIELD fans were celebrating promotion into League One this afternoon - without their team even kicking a ball, writes Digital Editor Graham Walker.
All eyes were on Wycombe Wanderers playing Torquay United away at Plainmoor.
Any result other than a Wycombe win meant promotion for John Sheridan’s side and the game there ended in a goalless draw.
Wanderers currently 11 points behind Chesterfield with four games to go, so a draw reduces their maximum available haul from the final quartet of games to 10 points.
It’s not enough to catch the Spireites who play at Oxford United tomorrow, at 1pm.
Chesterfield, who can nmow look forward to playing Sheffield Wednesday and almost certainly Sheffield United next season, have been top of the league in every table produced in 2011 so anything other than the title will now be seen as a disappointment.
