Having been confirmed that Spireites’ reserves will play in the East Section of the Central League, the club has announced where its development squad will play this season.
Re-branded as the Chesterfield FC Shadow Squad, the side will compete in the HKL North Midlands Development Football League.
All of the participants, including Sheffield United, AFC Mansfield, Sheffield FC, Ilkeston and Staveley Miners Welfare will field U21 sides and Spireites will play at Inkersall Road, the home of Staveley MW, predominantly on Monday nights.
Chesterfield’s Head of Academy Recruitment, Liam Sutcliffe, said: “The side will primarily be made up of members of our Under 18 shadow squad, but some young professionals might be involved on occasions.
“The league will provide extra games at a competitive level and challenge the youngsters on a weekly basis, which will aid their development as players. I’d like to thank Staveley Miners Welfare Chairman Terry Damms for agreeing to host our games.”
Damms, also the Managing Director of HKL Specialists who sponsor the league, is delighted that Chesterfield will be represented in the ten team league. He said: “As always, Staveley Miners Welfare FC will assist Chesterfield FC wherever possible. It’s a well-run league with some excellent teams and their inclusion will improve it further. It will also provide Chesterfield with first-hand opportunities to see if there is another local non-league gem out there.”
Spireites first team begin their match preparation tomorrow evening at Causeway Lane when the visit Matlock Town (7.45 kick off, adults £9, concessions £5.50, U12 £2) and Dean Saunders hopes to field most of his first team squad at some stage during the match. Twenty-four hours later Chesterfield play at Buxton (£6 adults, £4 concessions).
