Chesterfield FC will unveil their new manager at a press conference at noon tomorrow (Wednesday).

Paul Cook departed Spireites for League Two Portsmouth earlier today, bring an end to am impressive managerial career at the Proact Stadium

Dean Saunders is the early front runner for the vacant manager’s position at Chesterfield with bookmakers SkyBet.

The former Liverpool and Aston Villa forward, who was interim manager at Crawley Town when John Gregory stepped down for health reasons, is the clear favourite at 1/5.

Saunders has already wowed the crowds at the Proact this year when he entertained at one of the club’s All-Star Events sporting dinner in January, giving anecdotes on legends Brian Clough and Ron Atkinson.

He was, however, unable to keep Crawley afloat and oversaw the West Sussex side’s relegation to League Two - going down on 50 points, two behind Crewe and Colchester who both survived.

Former Barnsley boss Danny Wilson (8/1), Sarpsborg 08 manager and ex-Blade Brian Deane (10/1) and Spireites legend Jack Lester, currently involved with Nottingham Forest’s academy setup, (12/1) are among the favourites.

While Neil Redfearn (12/1), Keith Hill and former Manchester United defender Phil Neville (14/1) also touted along with Nigel Clough, Ian Evatt and Billy Davies (all out at 25/1).
