Chesterfield will kick off their 2015/16 League One campaign with a mouthwatering home match against rivals Barnsley on August 8 - in Dean Saunders first match in charge of the Spireites.

And new manager, Saunders, will get another feel for the heat of the derby when his side make the short journey to the Steel City seven days later to take on Sheffield United on August 15.

Sandwiched in between the opening two league games will be a 340-mile round trip north in the first round of the Capital One Cup to take on Carlisle United, before the trip to Bramall Lane.

In a busy month of August, Chesterfield will visit League One new boys Shrewsbury and Millwall.

The Spireites welcome Scunthorpe United to the Proact Stadium on October 24, travel to Doncaster Rovers on November 24 and play host to Bradford City on December 19 before the festive season.

A reverse of last season’s Boxing Day clash sees Chesterfield travel to Peterborough United before a home clash for New Year’s Day against Shrewsbury to be played on January 2.

Sheffield United visit the Proact on April 16, in a game sure to spark memories of last season’s dramatic 3-2 win for the Spireites, before the curtain comes down on the campaign at Bradford City on May 8.

Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner said: “It’s very exciting when you look at the fixture list for the new season.

“We’ll get right back into the swing of things with derbies against Barnsley and Sheffield United in the first two fixtures.

“We should have a full house for the opening day game against Barnsley, which will be great. Then we go to Sheffield United, which is one of those games you always look forward to.

“Going to Blackpool on a Tuesday night is a little bit disappointing for the fans who look forward to spending a weekend there, but other than that we can’t complain about how the fixtures have come out.”
