For the second time this week, Chesterfield will be watching the scores come through after their scheduled League Two game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Spireites were eager to make up for lost ground in the promotion race at Cheltenham Town today (Saturday, January 4) after their New Year’s Day game at Northampton Town fell victim to the weather.
But an early pitch inspection deemed the game was unplayable after match officials took in to consideration the current state of the playing surface and rain forecast throughout the day.
A re-arranged date is yet to be decided but Chesterfield will be mindful the impact of two postponements will have on their fixture schedule for the run in, which could also accommodate a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final date should Paul Cook’s side overcome Fleetwood Town over two legs next month.
Current League Two leaders Scunthorpe United are not in action until next week while second placed Burton Albion’s game at Rochdale was also postponed.
Oxford United’s trip to Bury and Portsmouth’s home game against Accrington Stanley are the other fixtures to have been called off this morning.
The Spireites are back in action on Saturday, January 11 at home to Bury.
