Paul Cook takes his squad to Alfreton Town tonight following a draw, a win and a defeat in the opening three pre-season fixtures.
Spireites drew at Buxton, beat Matlock Town before losing 2-0 at Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.
Supporters will travel in numbers to the Impact Arena for the game and most are still wondering about their team’s firepower for the new season in League One.
The manager said: “Last season we put the squad together quite quickly but this season it’s proving more difficult, so all of us at the club have to do our jobs well, we want the supporters to support us well.
“We’re doing everything we can to make us better and stronger but it doesn’t happen in a day.
“Football’s all about improving your team, everybody wants us to make signings but that’s not as easy as people think. What we need to make sure is that we get things right, that’s our job as staff and players and we’ll do our jobs as well as we can.”
Cook will be without Drew Talbot and Aaron Chapman for the game, possibly Tommy Lee as well, so trialist Luke Williams, who made a single appearance for Aldershot Town last season, looks set to continue in goal.
Alfreton are readying themselves for a fourth season in the Conference National and, to date, Nicky Law has brought in eight new faces. This will be the first game in their pre-season calendar with Port Vale, Walsall and Rotherham United to follow.
