New loan signing Leon Clarke goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game at Bournemouth.
The former Owls front man, recruited for 93 days from Swindon Town, will almost certainly start as a result of Jack Lester’s broken arm.
Clarke, who is a good pal of Dean Morgan after the two were together at Southend United, is fit and has shed two stones since leaving Hillsborough last year.
Chesterfield supporters will be hoping his signing will have filled the gap left by last season’s leading scorer Craig Davies.
The former Wolves man, who replaced Davies as a sub for Wolves in a League Cup match at Saltergate in 2006, has scored just once, for Preston at Watford, since limping off with a broken toe after scoring for Wednesday against Crystal Palace in the last game of 2009-10.
Along with Lester, missing from the Chesterfield squad are injury victims Derek Niven, Jamie Lowry and Gregor Robertson though Mark Randall (hip) and Dwayne Mattis (ankle) could feature.
Lee Bradbury’s Cherries have lost their last four League One fixtures and are without Michael Symes and Joe Partington.
Former Spireite Steve Fletcher, now 39, has been a regular sub this season though he did start in Bournemouth’s 3-1 loss at Notts County.
Chesterfield, without a win this season, will be desperate to kick-start their season after such a poor start.
