John Sheridan will be looking to give keeper Tommy Lee, striker Jack Lester and defender Gregor Robertson a run out in a reserves game at Port Vale this afternoon.
He hopes the trio will all be ready to be considered for a start for next Tuesday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern semi-final at Preston North End.
“They’ll be like new players,” the manager said adding: “I haven’t really brought anyone in, I’ve got the players here that I think are going to fight.
“We showed against Sheffield United we’ve got the fight to get us out of the position we’re in and that’s all I can ask for. What will be, will be with the results but if we do what we did at the weekend, we’ll be OK.”
Lester made a cameo appearance late on in the weekend home defeat against Sheffield United but wasn’t risked from the start.
Sheridan had to say ‘goodbye’ to two of his squad. Jonathan Grounds (Middlesbrough) and Bristol City’s Lee Johnson have returned to their parent clubs after their 3 month loan spells ended.
The manager said: “They came in and both did well. Results wise, we didn’t get the results we wanted but they both played a part, they’re both good players and they worked hard and tried to help us get out of the position we’re in. But it hasn’t quite worked out though I really appreciate what they tried to do.”
Spireites have no game this weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Torquay. Their next two league fixtures are against fellow strugglers Wycombe Wanderers away and at home to Walsall.
