Spireites host Bury tonight looking to try and overhaul another opponent in the lower half of the table.
Chesterfield’s 3-0 weekend win at Bournemouth saw them leapfrog the South Coast side in the table. With The Shakers just two points above John Sheridan’s men, there’s another opportunity to maintain an upward march.
Bury lost 4-2 at home to Rochdale last weekend and their Sheffield born boss Richie Barker has promised ‘changes.’
“One or two of them think their place is cemented and that the team picks itself,” said Barker, who added: “It won’t do now, people need to earn the right to play.”
Sheridan will have to assess the fitness of defender Simon Ford, who was forced off early on at Bournemouth after a knock on the head. However it looks likely that Dean Holden will start whilst there looks no likelihood that any of the other spots will be changed. That means that Leon Clarke, who had a solid, scoring debut will start at the B2net for the first time. Mark Randall will have to bide his time a bit longer for a start after coming on as a sub on Saturday following a niggling hip injury, loanee Lee Johnson will continue in midfield. Bury, who clinched promotion at the B2net last season, have lost a host of star names and will field a significantly different side to the one that won 3-2 on Easter Monday.
