Scott is ready to exchange running for playing

Returning Scott Griffiths, who has been recovering from a hernia operation, is looking forward to some football with Chesterfield. "I've not been off the running machine, a little bit of football and then more running so it'll be nice to get some games under my belt," he said but added: "I don't know when I'll get my chance, though, with Gregor Robertson back.

"But it's good to have competition and that will only make the squad stronger."

The left back, who returned to Peterborough in November after a three month loan, added: "The fans were great when I was here before and I got a great send off in my last game here. I'll be giving it 100% to try and get us promoted."

John Sheridan is hoping to add further to his squad. With right back Jack Hunt having returned to Huddersfield Town, Kelvin Lomax injured and Dan Gray loaned to Macclesfield, that spot is an urgent priority.

Notts County defender John Thompson is believed to be on the manager's radar. He's not made a league appearance since being red carded in October, though he did play in Magpies' excellent FA Cup win at Sunderland.

Spireites host Stevenage on Saturday and it is hoped leading scorer Craig Davies has shaken off the illness that forced him to miss the win at Southend last Saturday.
