Chesterfield moved up a place to 17th, five points clear of the drop zone, with a fine 3-2 win at Rochdale.
Both teams came into this 100th League meeting between the clubs in good heart, Spireites after that memorable 7-1 win over Shrewsbury Town, whilst Dale came away from pacesetters Walsall with a terrific 3-0 win.
Understandably, Chesterfield kept the same side from the Shrews match.
This was the third meeting between the teams this season and Chesterfield had yet to score against Keith Hill’s men.
But Spireites rectified that with a goal in the 26th minute when Jay O’Shea scored into the bottom corner after Sylvan Ebanks-Blake set up the chance.
The hosts were level 30 minutes later when Andrew Cannon’s cross was headed home by Ian Henderson.
Rochdale forced three corners in quick succession soon after but Chesterfield weathered the storm and regained the lead when last week’s hat-trick hero Lee Novak scored from close range into the top corner after a Dan Gardner assist in the 77th minute,
And less than three minutes later it was 3-1 to the Spireites thanks to Ebanks Blake’s effort into the bottom corner.
Chesterfield were down to 10 men in the 86th minute when Gboly Ariyibi was sent off for a second yellow card.
And alarm bells rang in the 90th minute when Rochdale reduced the arrearsw to 3-2, Rhys Bennett heading home from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing’s cross.
But Chesterfield held on to make it 10 goals and six points from the last two matches.
