SHEFFIELD Wednesday’s defeat at Chesterfield and United’s victory over Preston sparked scenes of undisguised jubilation from Blades fans on the forums.

On thestar.co.uk crystalpeaksman began: “They sure are in a downward spiral, at the rate they are going they will be lucky to make the playoffs, happy days.”

Silverblade followed on: “Chesterfield deserved it. Have your strikers gone on strike? Hey, you’re on a slippery slope, you’d got the chance to get back into the thick of it and came out of it wanting, are the white flags flying at Hillsborough?”

And Tat continued: “Nowt will cover up recent form! Blame who you want. You’re rotting in a very poor division, next term will be three years, and a rebuild! No gloating. just a sad reflection on the whole of Sheffield footy.”

Fed Up Strigidae responded: “Wow you guys dont miss a chance do ya. Good comeback for the Blunts, another blank and late goal conceded by us. Not feeling all that happy at present. Still, musn’t grumble.”

Proud2B-British said what many have also suggested online: “Megson’s days are numbered. That’s six very poor 90 mins on the trot. The amount of changes he’s making every match shows he hasn’t got a clue.”

North Sheffield countered: “Keep the faith Owls, Megson will come up with the goods next week, 3-0 to the Wednesday. Form book goes out of the window and Evans hasn’t got the bottle to score at Hillsborough. The Blunts will defo have a wobble and we will catch them.”

On Twitter, Chesterfield fans were revelling in their win over the boys from Sheffield 6, which has boosted their hopes of surviving relegation.

Emma Jane Johnson posted: “Amazing win today, a deserved 3 points! Fab atmosphere at b2net. We can still get out of relegation! #justbounce #thegreatescape #Spireites.”

Dave Coupland was happy, but also took into account other results on Saturday: “Just bk home after a brill day at the B2 CHESTERFIELD. Slight downer 6 of the bottom 7 in League 1 won today. #Spireites.”

And Vernon Grant took into account the links between Chesterfield and the Owls with this message: “Well done @reamagic (Chris Turner). Has done a great job @ #ChesterfieldFC Must have had mixed feelings today. Good luck to you & John (Sheridan) #spireites #swfc
