Chesterfield were unable to put Swindon under enough pressure to pull back a 3-1 deficit created when Andy Williams scored on 47 to add to Jack Stephens’ and John Swift’s first half goals that sandwiched a Sam Clucas goal.

The Chesterfield boss says he’s going to attack with pace this afternoon in a game where few outsiders will be predicting an away victory.

Both sides are in great form. The Robins have won seven in nine whilst Cook’s charges have lost just one in 14.

In Eoin Doyle and Andy Williams, we’ll be able to compare the section’s two top scorers at close quarters, Spireites have rebuffed all interest in the 22 goal front man whilst Williams has banged in 18, half of those in the last eight games.

Chesterfield, who haven’t won at the County Ground in 31 years, make two changes; Dan Jones and Jimmy Ryan come in for Ritchie Humphreys and Romy Boco whilst Mark Cooper is without Ben Gladwin, he’s replaced by Raphael Rossi-Branco.

Chesterfield fell behind to the league leaders in the 17th minute.

JACK STEPHENS headed from the centre of the box after a cross by Harry Toffolo.

It took them just four minutes to reply when SAM CLUCAS fired home a left-footed shot from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner.

But the hosts made it 2-1 to make it three goals in eight minutes when JOHN SWIFT made it 2-1 with a right footer in the 25th minute.

Gnanduillet teased out a corner, Clucas took this one, but the hosts cleared the low kick with ease.

Stephens ended a great Jones run illegally on the left edge of the box, Roberts took the free kick deep and Ryan half volleyed with venom onto the underside of the bar and from the rapid break Robins won a corner and Toffolo’s teasing delivery somehow eluded a touch, not unlike his earlier free-kick.

Paul Cook was warned by referee Miller for his behaviour in the technical area but he escaped a seat in the stand.

Roberts took a quick free kick after Turnbull fouled Doyle and Doyle’s cross just eluded Clucas, Gnanduillet and Hird and from the break the ball was played throughby Swift to ANDY WILLIAMS in space in the centre and he placed the ball low beyond Lee just two minutes after the re-start.

Lee have to dive left to gather in from Byrne’s 18 yarder as the hosts looked to ram home their two goal advantage.

Doyle’s cross was blocked for a corner and Roberts left sided flag kick found Gnanduillet and his header was blocked on the line by Byrne. Roberts dipped his shoulder and his cross was deflected for a corner that Gnanduillet headed over.

Foderingham erred and played the ball out to Clucas but rather than shoot, he passed to Gnanduillet who was clearly offside, an opportunity not taken.

Morsy’s pass to Darikwa was divine and his cross a peach but Gnanduillet, a full stretch at the far post, was unable to get a touch as Spireites began to build a head of steam.

With Jones on the deck, Doyle crossed in and Foderingham did well to dive forwards to catch. Obika came on for Smith.

Gnanduillet hammered a 32 yard free kick within a foot after Roberts had been fouled by Stephens. Rodgers came on for the impressive Swift.

Darikwa side stepped Toffolo who fell to the ground with some sort of injury but the Chesterfield full-back didn’t take advantage of the space gifted to him.

Raglan was booked for bringing down Obika after Ryan played a shocker of a back pass, another day it could have been red but Mr Miller hasn’t used the ultimate sanction this season. Rodgers’ 30 yard free-kick forced Lee to make a fine save and Rossi-Branco’s effort from the corner had to be blocked. Gardner and O’Shea came on for Clucas and Doyle.

The two subs combined immediately but Gardner’s cross was scrambled away.

Dieseruvwe came on for his league bow for Roberts who’d picked up a knock. Barthram came on for Toffolo.

Swindon held firm, taking no risks at the back and despite Spireites second half pressure, the home side deserved their win.
