CHESTERFIELD’S capture of Arsenal’s Mark Randall means the end of interest in Stockport County midfielder Paul Turnbull, who now looks set to join Northampton Town.

Spireites manager John Sheridan is on holiday this week ahead of his team’s return to pre-season training next Monday.

Sheridan will, in effect, have two new players back in his squad for the new season. Long-term injury victims Aaron Downes and Jamie Lowry are both expected to return fully to the squad from the start of training.

Defender Downes, who’s sufferered from two separate cruciate ligament injuries, has indicated he’s ready for a full-scale return to training while Lowry, a right-back or midfielder, did feature in a few squads in the spring but was always going to be fully saved for the assault on League One in the new season.

With left-back Nathan Smith also joining the squad, Sheridan is hoping for four more new faces. Clayton Donaldson remains the most talked about name
