We can do ugly. That’s the message from Spireites midfielder Jimmy Ryan.
Ryan said: “We’re not really a physical side but we’ve stood up to a lot of teams and a lot of physical sides and we’ve come out on top which shows the league that we can do the ugly side as well.”
He added: “It’s hard because we like to pass the ball around and get the ball on the floor which is hard in this league. A lot of teams want to kick it long and play the conditions with physicality.”
The draw against Scunthorpe kept Spireites three points clear at the top of League Two and Ryan is confident about the future.
“If you’d asked anyone at the start of the season where they’d like to be at this point then it’s exactly where we are,” he said.“Top of the league and going into the second leg of the area final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with a nice lead.
“You always want to be in the lead going into the home leg though it’s 90 minutes and anything can happen in football. ”
