Owls players can thrive on television exposure

Have your say

The two Sheffield clubs advanced their cause last week with a win apiece and pretty vital wins they were. As I noted last week Wednesday needed the three points because the trip to Charlton on Monday night will not be easy.

The Owls are 13/5, with Charlton slightly odds on at 20/21 and the draw at 12/5. It should be a humdinger of a game and I’m looking forward to seeing how Megson’s men equip themselves in front of the cameras. It’s an interesting aspect of betting because I have this theory that the away side actually can become very good value when they are covered live on TV.

The fact that players are in the shop window actually acts as a leveller in my eyes. Anyway if my theory is correct then get on Wednesday!

Historically they have won 18 times over Charlton with the London club winning 13 times and 11 of them drawn, so the stats are in your favour. I suppose I should be betting on how many substitutions Gary Megson makes in the first half against Charlton as well, but it’s probably best not to go there. The Blades continue to impress and are unbeaten so far this season and they take on Bury at home.

It’s difficult sometimes to encourage people to back odds on shots but United do look solid at the moment and the 3/4 on offer could be worth backing. United are 11/2 to win the title and 6/4 to get promoted. The Owls are 13/2 and 15/8 respectively.

Rotherham fans must be gutted that Adam Le Fondre, or Alf, has left for Reading, but you can back him at 50/1 to be the Championship top goalscorer as a consolation. I’d be a backer of Rotherham though in the early TV game on Saturday morning against Swindon. I just feel that Swindon are vulnerable at the moment and at 15/8 that looks good value. I’m also fearful for Donny and they are now 4/6 to get relegated, and 11/10 to stay up. Come on Donny fans get on the 11/10! My bet of the week is bottom club Leyton Orient to beat Chesterfield at 21/10. Sorry Spireites but I think the O’s will win this for Russell Slade. I suspect they’ll need to win to save their boss his job.
