On this day in history, Spireites have taken on and beaten the might of Leeds United, visited Bradford Park Avenue and hammered Tranmere Rovers.

In 2012 Chesterfield secured an away point at Stevenage, thanks to goals from Jordan Bowery and Neil Trotman, although having been 2-0 up it was a disappointing result.

Spireites went on to finish 22nd in League One, and were relegated.

In 2007, another year that saw Spireites drop out of League One, they went to Leyton Orient and returned home empty handed thanks to a single goal from Shane Tudor.

Six years earlier, the long trip to Plymouth Argyle ended in disappointment, with a 3-0 defeat - but Spireites still went up that season, even with a points deduction for financial irregularities.

In 1990, at Saltergate, Spireites were 2-1 winners over Hereford, in a season that saw them lose the play-off final to Cambridge United having finished seventh in the Fourth Division.

Peterborough United were the visitors in 1984, Saltergate hosting a 1-0 win for Chesterfield who went on to finish the season 13th in Division Four.

On this day in 1979 Tranmere Rovers were on the end of a 5-2 beating at the hands of Spireites at Saltergate.

York City visited in 1973 and shared the spoils after a 0-0 draw, and two years prior to that Port Vale were well beaten 3-0 at Saltergate.

In 1962 Chesterfield travelled to Chester, who finished the season rooted to the bottom of the fourth division, and lost 4-1 at Sealand Road.

Spireites ended that season in 19th position.

Stockport County hosted Chesterfield at Edgeley Park on a Saturday afternoon in 1956, and sent them home empty handed after a 2-1 win.

But Chesterfield still finished three points ahead of Stockport in the table, taking fifth place.

In ‘54 a visit to Bradford Park Avenue resulted in a point, following a 1-1 draw – Spireites finishing fifth that season as well, in the English Third Division North.

And in 1951, Chesterfield beat Leeds United 1-0, in something of a shock result at Saltergate. Spireites were relegated that year, finishing second bottom.

Leeds finished fifth, nine points off title winners Preston North End.
