Chesterfield midfielder Sam Morsy is making steady progress in his recovery from injury.

The midfielder is said to be making good strides in his recuperation from a torn medial cruciate ligament suffered away at Bristol Rovers in late October.

There was immediate concern for the 22-year-old and it was initially thought he’d be out until the New Year.

Spireites boss Paul Cook said the manner Morsy has dealt with the injury is pleasing to see.

He said: “I think anyone around the club who watches Sam will know he took his injury in his stride and all he is thinking about is getting back playing.

“We’re having to slow him down because he’s training that hard. It’s a pleasing aspect to see a young boy like that who just wants to play.”

Morsy is still thought to be a couple of weeks away from a return while Nathan Smith has received treatment at St George’s Park to overcome a troublesome ankle injury.

While fellow midfielder, Ollie Banks, has been shortlisted for League Two’s player of the month for a superb solo goal at Torquay United and a header against Wycombe Wanderers in an unbeaten month for the Spireites.
