It was good to have a look at Sheffield Wednesday when they played Charlton on Monday night.
They deserved the point they got and Gray Megson will be pleased with their fighting spirit. We are now 13/2 about the Owls to win the title and 7/4 to get promoted. It’s also 8/15 that they finish in the top six.
It seems logical at this stage to put the two Sheffield clubs in as serious contenders to be in the top six along with Charlton, Preston, Huddersfield and MK Dons. But we know that football isn’t that logical and predicting the top six after six matches, is probably asking for trouble. Anyway, Gary Megson has another toughie this weekend when they take on MK Dons and we are best priced on them at 6/4. Why? Well as you know I’m a generous man so that is part of it and secondly we are rather sweet on MK Dons. But it’ll be a close encounter and could go either way.
United have on the face of it, an easier task away to Scunny, but Scunthorpe are a tough team to beat at Glanford Park and their league position seems a little false. We are 7/5 about the Blades, and 7/4 on Scunny and that 7/4 tempts me.
I reckon the Blades are due for a fall after a decent start, and this could be it.
Rovers continue to struggle and there’s been a bit of money for Sean O’Driscoll to be the next Championship manager to get the can. We are still at 9/1 as we think it would be ridiculous to get rid of a manager as highly regarded as O’Driscoll. Simon Grayson, by the way, is the favourite to go at 3/1 and that’ll please a few people in South Yorkshire. Chesterfield boss John Sheridan is second favourite at 5/1 to go in League One after a mini gamble this week.
Again we feel it would be a knee jerk reaction for him to get the boot.
My bet of the week is Ipswich at 16/5 to win at Blackpool on Saturday. It’s too big. They could be back on track after beating Leeds and they will get goals. Good luck!
