Sympathy for Dean Saunders is in short supply on social media, as Spireites fans turn their attention to his successor.
A number of supporters have expressed a desire to see former Swindow Town boss Mark Cooper brought in at the Proact.
Others have asked that current Chesterfield player and coach Ritchie Humphreys, who celebrates his 38th birthday today, be given a chance.
Paul Crooks emailed the Derbyshire Times to back the board for making a change at this point in the season, and put recently departed Leeds boss Brian McDermott’s name forward.
“Yes, it was the right decision to sack Dean Saunders, in fact he should not have been appointed in the first place with his past record,” he said.
“As to the new manager, I would ask this of the chairman - would you appoint a poor manager in your business just because he was cheap? No of course not. You get what you pay for! Brian McDermott for me.”
Posting on a supporters online forum, Spireite-Karl’s wish to see ex Doncaster Rovers and Nottingham Forest boss Sean O’Driscoll brought in appeared to chime with several other fans.
“Did Sean O’Driscoll get another gig after being booted out with Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool as he’d be my number one choice?”
While some fans appear uneasy at the suggestion that Danny Wilson is favourite for the job, a Sheffield United supporter believes the two-time Barnsley manager would be a good fit.
Luke Shepherd tweeted: “Danny Wilson would be a very good appointment for @ChesterfieldFC he did a good job for us at Sheffield United, he played proper football.”
Jack Lester’s name is in the frame, but not every Spireites fan is convinced he’s the right man to take the club forward.
Sarah Frisby tweeted: “And as for Jack Lester that’s crazy. Never managed in the football league, we need someone with experience surely?!”
And in one of the more unusual predictions, a Spireites fan has stated their admiration for David Jeffrey who managed Belfast club Linfield in the Irish League.
Posting on the Derbyshire Times comment section, ‘new emigrant’ said: “I think that the Board are just as culpable as Saunders. They over a period of time have sold some of their best players. It will be very interesting who they appoint now because a fast move is essential. A suggestion, won’t happen though, David Jeffrey the ex Linfield, Northern Ireland manager is arguably the best from there is available. Be under no illusion he is good. Check his pedigree.”
