Spireites have extended the loan of back up keeper Ben Wilson up to and including October 27.
The Sunderland youngster has been covering for Richard O’Donnell during Tommy Lee’s spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
Lee has re-joined training and is expected to be back by the time Wilson is now scheduled to move back to Wearside.
Another loan player, Chris Atkinson, will see his loan come to an end after the weekend trip to Exeter City.
With Luis Boa Morte on board and Danny Whitaker fit again plus Craig Clay re-emerging as a potential starter, the midfielder could be allowed to return to Huddersfield Town.
If that’s the case, Tommy Wright would no doubt use the extra squad space to hunt for a versatile defender to help the department which has come under fire on a number of occasions of late.
Exeter boss Paul Tisdale has called for his defence to improve after their 3-0 loss at Northampton Town on Saturday.
Pat Baldwin and Danny Coles played in City’s central defence in that game with Steve Tully and Craig Woodman in the full back berths.
All four men are very experienced but do lack some pace.
The Grecians have won just one of their last five home games, against Wycombe in a game they were twice behind in, Coles bagged the winner in the 3-2 game.
Two of the Devon clubs’ players have had good times against Chesterfield, but not for some time.
Jamie Cureton has scored eight goals against Spireites in his distinguished career whilst Arron Davies once bagged a hat-trick at Saltergate, for Yeovil Town.
However neither has scored against Chesterfield since March 2006, Davies’s trio coming three weeks before Cureton scored twice for Swindon Town.
