CHESTERFIELD make the short trip to Causeway Lane tonight (7.45pm) to take on Matlock Town in their second pre-season match.

One man who shone in the first, the 4-1 win at Alfreton, was Jordan Bowery who bagged a brace to stake an early claim for a regular starting berth. He said: “It’s good for the confidence, first game back, it’s mainly to get back to fitness but two goals means happy days! The first one, I was on the edge of the box, I laid it out for Jack Lester who made a great pass back across the goal for me to slide it in. The second one was a ball from Mark Randall to slot me through and I got it in again.”

He thanked his fitness coach for his role in the build-up: “I owe a big thanks to Shane Nicholson for helping me get fit. It’s been good, so to be really fit is good and getting two goals topped it off. Everyone’s here to be starting, but I need to wait and see whether I’ll be in for the Tranmere game. If I keep scoring, you never know.”

Dean Morgan is expected to feature tonight after being ill for the Alfreton game.
