Despite sitting 15th in the League One table, Danny Wilson’s men are just three points off the final play-off spot.

And O’Shea knows his side must start putting wins together if they are to achieve their play-off ambitions.

“We have been strong at home, home form was not good enough last season and we want to make this place a bit of a fortress,” he said.

“A couple of wins will put us in the right direction. In most of the games we have been the better side this season.

“There are no teams that really worry us. We want to get to the play-offs this season and see where we go.

“Gillingham will be a tough game, they have got some good players. They are only three points ahead of us, so we can go level with them with a win.”

And O’Shea, who has scored nine goals each season for the last four seasons, knows he has a big personal role in helping Spireites succeed.

“I’m not happy with two goals so far this season, I probably should have had more,” he said.

“I’ll be looking to change that as soon as possible. I want to hit double figures this season after hitting nine in the last four seasons..

“It’s something that is nagging me and it’s a barrier I want to get over. Hopefully this year will be the season I can do it.

“My form has been ok so far this season, I just need to be a bit more consistent. I’m very harsh on myself.”

The experienced campaigner, who has more than 200 career appearances under his belt, also knows he has to step up and be a leader as injuries began to bite hard.

He said: “The current injuries will have an impact on any squad and we do not have the biggest squad.

“We have got faith in the lads who are coming in to do a job. There is responsibility on the senior players to help the younger lads

“I have played a lot of games for this club and I would like to be able to pass on the stuff I have learned and try to make them not as nervous and help them on the way.”
