SPIREITES are almost certain to be without Jack Lester for tomorrow’s visit to Dagenham & Redbridge.
Lester, 37 and a former Grimsby team mate of Daggers’ caretaker manager Wayne Burnett, is suffering from a virus. Paul Cook said that, with Tuesday’s trip to Cheltenham just around the corner, he was unlikely to risk the striker.
To balance that blow Frenchman Armand Gnanduillet is back in contention.
He trained yesterday for the first time in a fortnight and looks to have overcome his abductor strain.
He’s likely to partner Marc Richards.
In midfield Sam Togwell returns after sitting out the draw with Aldershot with a hamstring problem. It was his first miss of the season and he comes back to the side along with skipper Sam Hird, whose two game suspension has ended. That pair are likely to form the defensive midfield partnership.
Craig Clay joins Tendayi Darikwa on the injured list. Like his former youth team colleague, he’s got a double hernia.
Width will be Cook’s main worry. Alex Henshall was withdrawn at half-time on Tuesday and Jay O’Shea was ineffective when switched wide meaning Danny Whitaker looks set to start on one flank with Henshall, Drew Talbot and Conor Townsend chasing the final slot. Talbot could return to full-back, he was switched there when Richard Brindley was withdrawn against Andy Scott’s side, though Hird too could take up that position.
This week’s training has been geared up to taking chances: “We’ve looked very good in training going forwards this week, but that was without any opposition on the park!” he quipped.
