Spireites boss Gary Caldwell believes his struggling side are more than good enough to beat the League One drop.

Chesterfield find themselves three points adrift from safety after losing last weekend’s relegation six-pointer at home to Oldham.

And the Scotsman says his players are working hard on escaping the bottom four. starting with victory at Northampton tomorrow.

“The players have worked hard this week, and should go into the game with confidence,” he said.

“I think how I want to play will bring success over a long period of time. It worked at Wigan and I believe it will here.

Sam Hird: ‘Don’t write us off just yet’

“Everything we’ve done this week has been on our attacking play and how we position ourselves. It’s important we take it in to Saturday.

“These players have enjoyed it and played it well, now we need to start winning games.”

And, following a run of just one win in seven, Caldwell is calling on Chesterield’s experienced players to help support their younger team-mates.

“It’s important that the older players help the younger players on the pitch and show them the way,” he added.

“When you win games everything seems better at a football club, it’s important we win on Saturday.

“Justin’s teams are hard to play against, I’m expecting a tough game with Northampton.

“We want to win the next game, there’ll be highs and lows but we can only concern ourselves with the next game.

“I’m convinced that this team is good enough to stay in the league.”
