The Spireites hosts for tomorrow’s pre-season opener, Buxton, have a number of familiar faces in their ranks.

The Northern Premier League side are managed by former Rotherham United stalwart Martin McIntosh, assisted by one time Doncaster Rovers player Scott Maxwell.

Another ex-Donny man, Kevin Sandwith, is in the playing squad with former Owls striker Adam Muller and Sam Duncum, who started out at Millmoor.

Paul Cook looks likely to be without left-back Nathan Smith, still not 100 per cent after a foot injury sustained in March.

Chesterfield are playing only two away friendlies this summer, Southport on July 20 is the other, so a decent following is expected atSilverlands, especially with the traditional trip to neighbours Matlock Town not being on the calendar for the first time in 20 years.

Along with relegated Portsmouth and ambitious Fleetwood Town, Cook’s side are among the top three favourites for the League Two title, something the manager is quite comfortable with.
