Former Welsh international Dean Saunders began his managerial career in October eight when he appointed manager of Wrexham.

Saunders started off well, winning his five league games to give giving him the best starting record of any new manager in the club’s history.

But he failed to maintain that fine start as Wrexham were left to settle for a 10th place finish.

The following season saw no improvement as Wrexham finished the campaign in 11th spot.

The former Liverpool striker made new signings in the summer of 2010, the

Saunders made several signings in the summer of 2010 as he guided Wrexham to a play-off place.

But the promotion dream was ended after Luton Town defeated them 5–1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

Saunders left the following season to take over at Doncaster Roves in September 2011.

But his attempts to keep Doncaster in the Championship came to an end on 14 April 2012 as they were relegated following a 4–3 home defeat by Portsmouth at the Keepmoat Stadium, ending their four-year stay in the Championship.

Following their relegation to League One Saunders oversaw a promotion challenge, which put the club joint top of the division by early January.

Saunders controversially left the club on 6th January 2013 to join Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It was a move which failed to work out as Wolves were relegated to the third tier since 1984–85 being confirmed on the final day of the season with defeat at Brighton.

Saunders had his contract terminated three days after relegation was confirmed, following only four months in the job.

On 27 December 2014 Saunders was named as interim manager of Crawley Town after John Gregory stepped down due to health problems.

On 4 May 2015, the final day of the season, Crawley Town were relegated from League One, becoming the third team relegated under his management.
