Dennis ready for menace of pre-season

The 2016 pre-season might be the hardest of Kristian Dennis' career, so he's already hard at work.

Dennis, 26, signed for Chesterfield last week from Stockport County.

And the man who once bagged 40 goals in a season for Curzon Ashton is already training, in an attempt to put himself in the best position to contend for a starring role at the Proact next season.

“I’m working already to try and get fit for pre-season,” he admitted.

“It’s probably going to be the hardest pre-season I’ve had.

“The club sent me an email with a programme to stick to so I’m doing that at the minute.

“And once I’m back from France, the hard work really starts.”

Other than some YouTube clips, Dennis will be an unknown quantity for the Chesterfield faithful and probably most of his new team-mates.

One former manager, John Flanagan, described the frontman as ‘just a goalscorer.’

But that’s an assessment that doesn’t quite sit right with Dennis, who is hoping to show fans, team-mates and his new manager that he can hit the net and contribute in other ways.

“I haven’t met any of my team-mates yet,” he said.

“I was only there for a couple of hours last week, but I did meet all the backroom staff, the chief executive, the media team and everyone seems great.

“I like to think I’m more than a goalscorer, I work hard for the team and bring the ball down, bring other people into play.

“But the main thing is to score goals.”

Dennis might be back in the Football League, for the first time since his 2010 release by Macclesfield, but he hasn’t seen the back of non-league grounds just yet.

Chesterfield have announced they will make the now traditional short trip to Matlock Town again this summer.

The pre-season friendly will take place at Causeway Lane on Tuesday 19th July.
