Chesterfield’s Eoin Doyle has signed for Cardiff City for an undisclosed ‘seven-figure’ fee.
Doyle has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Bluebirds on completing his move.
The 26-year-old was at the top of Sheffield United’s wishlist on deadline day as they look to bring in a striker to bolster their promotion push.
Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner said: “We have reached an agreement with Cardiff after negotiating a deal we feel is good business for the club.
“Some of the money we receive will be used to reduce the club’s debt but funds are also being made available to manager Paul Cook to strengthen the squad and one or two signings are in the pipeline.”
Doyle was a target for Rotherham United early in the window while MLS outfit New York City were reportedly keen to bring the 26-year-old in on deadline day.
