CHESTERFIELD: Togwell to join Spireites

Spireites are expected to complete the signing of ex-Barnsley midfielder Sam Togwell today.

The 27-year-old began his career at Crystal Palace. During his time ther he was loaned to Oxford, Northampton and Port Vale. His Vale debut came at Saltergate and he bagged a brace for the Potteries club in an FA Cup win over Doncaster Rovers.

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, Togwell joined Barnsley in the summer of 2006 and he was a regular in the Championship side for two seasons.

In 2009 he helped Scunthorpe United win promotion to the Championship. Last term he made 44 appearances for the Iron but was released by Alan Knill at the end of the camapign.

Togwell joins Marc Richards, Richard O’Donnell, Terrell Forbes and Sam Hird at the B2net Stadium, taking John Sheridan’s squad to 21, one man short of his target.
