Chesterfield FC legend Jack Lester led the messages of congratulations for the current crop of Spireite stars bound for League One.
The striker, who was part of the side that won promotion to League One in 2011, was at the Pirelli Stadium on Sunday.
He was in attendance, along with 2,000 additional Spireites, as Chesterfield confirmed their promotion from League Two at Burton Albion.
“Fantastic day for Chesterfield. Emotional scenes at the end and loved the calmness of Jay O’Shea’s first goal. Great day!” tweeted Lester.
Former centre-half Steve Blatherwick, who made over 200 appearance for Chesterfield in an eight-year stay, also congratulated Paul Cook’s troops.
“Congratulations to all the staff, players and fans of Chesterfield FC on gaining promotion to League 1. Particularly Evo and Coops #classact,” added Blatherwick.
Referee Robert Madley’s full time whistle brought an end to match proceedings and the start of fantastic scenes on the pitch.
Promoted Chesterfield players were congratulated by their travelling supporters, who ran on to the pitch to praise their heroes.
Spireites boss, Cook, watched from afar as his staff and players popped the cork and joined supporters in dreamland.
Afterwards, the players also found time to spread their messages of gratitude to supporters through social media.
PFA chairman Ritchie Humphreys said: “What an amazing afternoon. #promotion. Say no more. Well done fellas, celebrating in front of the fans #incredible.”
“What a feeling! It’s been a pleasure to be a part of this team this season!” wrote Tendayi Darikwa.
Ollie Banks added: “What a year, it’s been a pleasure to be part of this team, loved every second, thanks to the fans for fantastic support all year!”
